Welcome to Scouting America Troop 742, a proud and enduring member of the Towson community since its charter in May 1958. Troop 742 has a rich history of fostering leadership, outdoor skills, and civic responsibility among its Scouts. As part of the Gunpowder Falls District within the Baltimore Area Council, our troop has consistently upheld the values and traditions of Scouting America for over six decades.
Our troop proudly honors 126 Scouts who have earned the rank of Eagle, a testament to our commitment to excellence and the dedication of our Scouts and leaders. Achieving the rank of Eagle is the highest honor in Scouting America, reflecting a Scout’s perseverance, leadership, and service. Under the leadership of Scoutmaster Mike Nadolny, Troop 742 continues to thrive, guiding Scouts toward becoming responsible and capable citizens.
Troop 742 meets every first and third Thursday of the month from September through July at Scout Hall, located at the corner of Providence Road and Seminary Avenue in Towson, MD. Meetings begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. and run until 9:00 p.m., providing a structured yet engaging environment for Scouts to learn and grow. Our Patrol Leader Council meets on the fourth Thursday of the month. Special advancement nights occur on the fifth Thursday of the month. In addition to regular troop meetings, our Troop Committee gathers on the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Scout Hall to discuss troop affairs and plan upcoming activities.
Our meetings are dynamic and varied, often featuring Scouts teaching or demonstrating essential scouting skills followed by inter-patrol games or contests that reinforce what has been learned. We also host guest speakers, prepare for upcoming trips, and maintain our Scout Hall to ensure it remains a safe and welcoming space for all members. Emphasizing friendship and cooperation, our meetings foster a strong sense of community within the patrols and the troop as a whole.
Beyond our regular meetings, Troop 742 is active in numerous activities that promote outdoor skills and personal growth. We camp one weekend each month, providing Scouts with hands-on experience in camping, hiking, backpacking, and canoeing. Every July, Scouts attend the Summer Camp for intensive skill-building and adventure, while every other year offers the opportunity for High Adventure trips, delivering unique and memorable experiences. Additionally, our troop participates in various citizenship and community service projects, instilling a sense of responsibility and commitment to making a positive impact in our community.
Throughout the year, we hold Courts of Honor at least twice, celebrating the achievements of our Scouts who have earned new ranks or merit badges. These public ceremonies also announce upcoming leadership roles, recognizing those Scouts who will take on responsibilities in the next term.
At Troop 742, our mission is to offer a challenging and enjoyable program that develops outdoor skills, fosters citizenship, and provides community service opportunities. We are dedicated to supporting the personal growth of each Scout, preparing them to become leaders and responsible citizens.
Whether you’re a parent looking to enroll your child, a volunteer interested in supporting our troop, or a community member wanting to learn more, we invite you to join the Troop 742 family. Together, we strive to build a vibrant and supportive community where every Scout can thrive.
