Congratulations or earning Life rank! As soon as you earn this rank, complete the following:
- Complete 21 Merit Badges (Requirement 3)
- To earn the rank of Eagle Scout, you must complete 21 total merit badges, which includes:
- 14 Eagle-required badges
- 7 elective badges
- This is 10 more badges than required for the Life rank.
- To earn the rank of Eagle Scout, you must complete 21 total merit badges, which includes:
- Serve in a Leadership Position for Six Months (Requirements 1 & 4)
- You must be active in your troop and serve in an approved leadership position for a total of six months. These months do not need to be consecutive.
- Approved leadership roles include:
- Patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, senior patrol leader, troop guide, Order of the Arrow representative, den chief, scribe, librarian, historian, quartermaster, junior assistant Scoutmaster, chaplain aide, instructor, webmaster, or outdoor ethics guide.
- Patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, senior patrol leader, troop guide, Order of the Arrow representative, den chief, scribe, librarian, historian, quartermaster, junior assistant Scoutmaster, chaplain aide, instructor, webmaster, or outdoor ethics guide.
- Demonstrate Scout Spirit (Requirement 2)
- You must show Scout Spirit by living the Scout Oath and Scout Law in your everyday life.
- As part of this requirement, you will request and list references—people who know you well and can speak to your character. Their names will appear on your Eagle Scout Rank Application.
- Complete Your Eagle Scout Service Project (Requirement 5)
- Plan, develop, and give leadership to others as you carry out your Eagle Scout Service Project. All planning, approvals, execution, and documentation must be completed before moving to the next step.

- Request an Eagle Scoutmaster Conference
- After completing Requirements 1 through 5, schedule and complete your Eagle Scoutmaster Conference.
- After completing Requirements 1 through 5, schedule and complete your Eagle Scoutmaster Conference.
- Submit Your Eagle Application
- Once your conference is complete, submit your Eagle Scout Rank Application.
- After Scouting America reviews and confirms your application, a Eagle Board of Review will be scheduled.
